The Most Common Repair Points on a Bobcat Tractor

Everyday tractor repair is easier than you think. With regular inspections, you can keep your Bobcat® compact tractor in great condition, which saves you time and money down the road. These are the key areas we recommend checking. Check out our quick guide to Bobcat tractor repair!

1. Examine the Engine Belt

1. Examine the Engine Belt

The engine belts in your Bobcat tractor power the alternator, radiator fan, hydraulic pump, and water pump. If these aren’t inspected regularly, you could see serious engine damage.

Tips:

  • Look for cracks, rotting, or slippage on the belts
  • Replace worn or damaged belts immediately

2. Keep the Radiator Screen Clean

A clean radiator screen maintains airflow and keeps the engine from overheating. Dust and debris can quickly clog the screen.

Tips:

  • Inspect and clean the radiator screen on a regular basis
  • If cleaning isn’t cutting it, replace with a new Bobcat radiator screen

3. Check Your Tires

Tire damage stinks. Make sure they’re always properly inflated and in good condition.

Tips:

  • Check for cracks, cuts, leaks, and gouges
  • Monitor PSI levels and adjust based on your Operation & Maintenance Manual

4. Inspect Your Filters

4. Inspect Your Filters

Filters protect your tractor’s engine from dirt, debris, and contaminants. Check for clogs and replace as needed.

Tips:

  • Clean air filters with compressed air to increase their life
  • Replace fuel filters at scheduled times
  • Use high-quality oil filters to protect the engine

5. Test the Battery

Extreme temperatures and age will decrease the power of your tractor’s battery.

Tips:

  • Look for corrosion on terminals
  • Replace batteries every 3-5 years (or whenever power is no longer reliable)

6. Keep Your Fuel System Clean

Bobcat tractors have polymer fuel tanks to prevent rust. But we still suggest keeping an eye on the fuel system.

Tips:

  • Use clean, fresh fuel to avoid buildup
  • Add a fuel stabilizer during off-seasons

7. Maintain Your Hydraulic System

Hydraulics power the tractor’s attachments and operations. Make sure you keep these in good condition.

Tips:

  • Check hydraulic fluid levels regularly
  • Inspect hoses and connections for leaks or wear
  • Replace hydraulic filters (check your manual for the maintenance interval on this)

Winter Maintenance Checklist

  • Add a fuel stabilizer (prevents fuel degradation when you’re not using the tractor)
  • Drain water from the fuel separator (to avoid freezing)
  • Store the tractor in a dry, covered area (inside storage is best)
  • Remove and store the battery in a warmer location to preserve its charge
